SK,

What kind of camera do you use for your videos and how do you mount it to your boat?

I use this camera

And I use a regular pole mount to attach the cam to the pole & put the pole in one of the rod holders on my console....

One thing I don't like about this cam is you can't pair it with a mic..... other than that it's great.....

Got me a GoPro today with all the Academy Gift Card I had laying around. Ive got it rigged up on an extra seat pole I had. Should work pretty good mounted on rear deck.

SK,

Just looked at your camera in detail. Thats a nice setup on it. Was going to make a video today with mine running Caney but I didnt realize till I was on water that I didnt charge battery correctly. I thought it charged through camera USB but it doesn’t.

SK,

Well I did charge my GoPro correctly....evidently it doesn't like 31°F weather when I launched boat this morning. A little disappointing based on their reputation.

The little bit of video I did shoot was high quality when I reviewed it but it has jerky parts in it. I'm guessing my microSD card doesn't write fast enough. What kind do you use in your camera and what quality video do you record?

I use the Sandisk Ultra Plus....
I've played around with 4k but it takes too long to do anything with it....I use 1080 and 60fps....
I'll be lookn for you on YT soon.... videoing and editing is FUN.....

SK,

Well I finally figured it all out. Was not the temp and was not the charge. It was the card. Even though I shot 1080p at 120 fps the SanDisk Ultra Plus is not sufficient for the GoPro 6. It requires a V30 card (SanDisk Extreme, etc) to work. Those buggers are hard to find and expensive! Finally found a 64gb card on SanDisks website for $109. Thinking I may should have just gone with the GoPro 5.

The 6 I think just came out and GoPro evidently isnt doing to well financially. For that reason they have quit making drones and slashed their prices pretty deep. Company is also up for sale. They cut the price of the 6 100 bucks from 499 to 399 since Christmas.

I glanced at the lowered price of them the other day but only looked as I continued walking by....
That may be a reason for me to look at them again....
What I didn't like about them was the volume was NOT good since it needed a case to make it waterproof... but that can be compensated with a mic....

SK,

The 6 is waterprof to like 30’ without a case. Should be good enough in a fishing boat unless you plan to sink it to find the fish lol!

I also just saw on their website they are selling a 64gb Extreme card for 59 bucks if you order off the GoPro web site. This is half the price I paid Saturday night for mine!
