Well my trolling motor installation is going pretty good. I ran into a slight issue where the trolling motor needs to be elevated off the front deck about 1in in order for the shaft to sit above my railing when stowed.

My question is, what can I use to build the little platform? I plan to attach whatever I use to the deck with through bolts and then attach the trolling motor bracket to that.

My first thought is a pressure treated 2x6 (more than inch but good nuff). Is that a big no no?

I do not know what material they are made from but i bought a quick release
mounting bracket from cabelas in league city it is about 1 inch or so thick. but if
you ever want to remove the trolling motor it has one pin going through it .
pull that pin and the trolling motor comes right off.
if you want board ask dutch he has his mounted on a marine board of some kind
he has ran it for a few years .

mine is like this they have different types https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/minn-k ... 4916746683

I have a pressure treated 2 by 8 under the trolling motor and it has worked fine for many years. I painted it with two coats of paint before installing it.

The new bracket was tall enough to not need any wood. Very happy as it is much cleaner.
