No chum. Bait was simple... Wheaties in a food processor to a fine flour, then add enough canned corn to make a dough ball (corn kernels have enough liquid without adding water, doesn't take much). Bait ball gets harder with age, so leave it soft when you make it. I keep reading that Lake Houston has carp to 40 pounds and they are "easy to catch". I have never tried carp fishing there, but I might. I thought I'd take the boat, and after launching at Ponderosa, stand on the bank by the water and throw out a bunch of range cubes near the small island there. when I come back in from crappie fishing, I would bank fish for carp where I chummed. I would invite anyone who wants to give it a try. I tend to not fish on weekends, but the chum would still be working that evening for those who could come after work. I would add more chum when I started fishing there. |

At the last tournament I thought a bunch of gar were rolling and hitting the surface, but I got a good look at a few in a protected cove and they were 3-5 pound carp running the banks. They're in there. Dunno about a 40 pounder though... |
