Went this weekend. Family get together for birthdays. Stayed at a lake house.
Fished from the bank a couple days for a couple hours each day. Very pretty blue clear lake.
Lake is 95% full. 8,000 surface acres.
Lake record white crappie is 1.5#. Large mouth record is just over 11#’s.
Flathead catfish 24.5#. There are also records for strippers and small mouth bass.
There is a fish consumption advisory and the lake has zebra mussels.
Very rocky and drop offs are sudden and deep.
Caught three the first day on swim baits. All small. I swear one looked like a Guadalupe bass.
Lost one at the bank the second day. That was on a rage tail critter on a jig head. Lost both swim baits on day one.
No bites on; worm, spinnerbait, crank baits or anything else.
Lost several baits on the rocky bottom. Would have lost more but my grandson went swimming for about 6-7 hung baits and made recoveries.
The hike down to the water was a challenge and back up was taxing. Tied a rope atop the cliff to help in the climbs.
So... Lake Houston isn’t as pretty but fish are bigger and water quality is better and it is larger.... For now anyway...

Houston is a big crappie lake..... With it having as many crappie as it does I'm surprised it don't grow bigger bass......
I see you're still getting some nice sized bass.....
