I've always found Lake Houston to be fairly light on shad. Threadfin seems to be the dominate species and they are a smaller variety. I've never had a tremendous amount of success locating them on the sonar and when I do catch them it seems to be just luck.

Perfectly ready to accept that I am just bad at it but are there places in the lake that they are more abundant or do I just need to keep looking?

I have been seeing several schools of shad in the bayou for a while
now. But when the cold spells hit they go very deep this time of
the year. but what i have seen is about 6- 8 feet deep
