Unfortunately, he is not a fisherman. My father had 2 sons. One son he imparted all of his science and fishing skills to (me) and the other got all of his mechanical skills (my brother). You have probably seen him out on the lake at some point. He runs a boat and jet ski repair on the lake. That is where I keep my boat.

I need to try and get with your guys and see what I am doing wrong. Yalls images are so much better than mine with the down scan and side scan. When I was side scanning today it was good out to about 30 feet but anything past that was just solid black. I played with all the controls and contrast etc but never could get it to work. Yalls images look great. Any suggestions?

It may help you to watch Doug V. On YouTube, he has several videos that really helped me out.
I've never heard of anyone having the problem you are having.
Have you tried resetting your unit to factory default?
What unit do you have?

Dutch was right about SK's screenshots . . . it's an old bridge. Took these screenshots with a Lowrance HDS7.

Two more submerged vehicles, just north of the 1960 bridge. I always thought these were just chunks of concrete until I looked at them harder yesterday.

First shot I went right over the top the vehicle, looks like a sedan or possibly a pickup.
Second shot the same vehicle was left of the boat, looks like it has a sunroof! Appears to be buried in the lake sediment. Wonder if you would get a big crappie "thump" if you happened to drop a jig inside of that sunroof? LOL!
Third shot looks like a utility truck left of the boat.

A good-sized school of white bass hanging on the edge of a dropoff, with a log just beneath the school.

Remnants of the old RR bridge, looks like large chunks of concrete or boulders.

I need to get a micro SD card for my sonar. What brand do you guys recommend to be used in a Lowrance Elite 5 HDI ?
I been reading that 2 gig is the card largest it can take. However does it need to be an HD or standard SD card. K8nda partial to Sandisk brands since I use them on my trail cams. Would like to post some screens from mine. Oh its mounted on a kayak :).

Went out today to Luce to test my new Humminbird 698 HD SI unit that they sent me to replace 4 bad 688s. It is in the front of the boat, transducer on the trolling motor. This unit appears to work on all cylinders for a change. I really didn't fish much, but went recording. I went from Ponderosa to the mouth of Luce at 4 mph, recording on both the 698 and my 898 in the back. I went all the way to the mouth and then back on the other side on one recording on each unit. The main reason I had both units recording was to directly compare scans from each unit. Now all I have to do is figure out how to use Humminbird PC to look at them with. Don't have to sit in the hot garage to look at them on the units any more. Just bring in the cards and play. I will be posting a lot of sonar images in the following week or so.

Here are some screen shots from my Humminbird 698 on the trolling motor. It isn't dialed in completely yet, but I'm happy so far with the unit.

This is a shot that shows sonar, down imaging and side imaging. Decent detail. I erased the GPS coordinates

This is a school of fish just off a drop off. I saw lots of this behavior. Shad on the right hugging bottom

Several stumps to the left of the boat. The horizontal black lines are the sonar shadow. The longer the line, the taller the stump. It is easier to spot the shadows on the screen than the stump reflection.
