FIRST REPORT: Went out Friday afternoon and made it until dark with my family and in-laws, about 3 hours. Managed to get my nephew a PB 11lb blue cat. Winds were light and variable. Did a little drifting and used the trolling motor a bit with side planers. Fished just south of 1960 and just north of the power lines where I saw some spots on a Hot Spots map. Granted I know nothing about the lake. Had no other bites. Fished with a bit of shad and carp I net at the ramp. The fish hit a strip of carp. Water ranged from about 9’-25’. Most shad activity I saw was in the west Fork where I launched and not in the open water. Should I have stayed in the rivers?

Do these fish move to deeper water in the winter like in other lakes I’ve fished? Not real familiar with Lake Houston.

Figured y’all would enjoy the update even though I have no clue what I’m doing :) Have a good weekend.

When the water gets cold the blues tend to move into deeper water. However, channel cats can be caught in very shallow water on sunny days when the sun warms the water close to the bank. I like 13 FOW year round...seem to always get a bite at that depth either on the bottom or suspended. Eleven pound blue...good on ya mate.

Thanks for the post i know your nephew was very happy
The weatherman always told me to use chicken hearts
to catch catfish. He says if they don't hit that then try
some chicken hearts.

What’s funny is I have looked for chicken hearts at H-E-B a few times and their bin location was empty. Y’all must be taking them :) Weatherman keep me posted on an outing. Thanks!!
