February through march Is the time Most Big large mouth
Bass are caught here in Texas. They have fattened up all
winter long and are full of eggs . So this is the heaviest
those fish will be all year long .

So right now is the best time to go looking for that trophy
of a life time . Use big baits big swim baits . 12 inch worms

big Buzz baits . Low light conditions will be your best time
early morning late evening night time. rainy overcast days
pre storm or front .

The fish are there and they still have to eat dirty water
effects the fishermen more than it does the fish.

Not from lake Houston, but I think it's my personal best length and weight combined, but I grabbed one at conroe that was shorter, but felt like a bag of flour.

I mean, it's no 12lb sharelunker from lake Fork, but it works for me.

Cool story with this fish. In a culvert no wider than a F-250 and just as long, maybe 1.5 foot deep.

Red plastic worm on a worm hook...the fish hit it, bent the rod, and ran my line along the length of exposed concrete lining the sides of the drainage pipe......I pull up a wrinkled line without and hook or lure.

I felt bad thinking of the poor fish digging it's nose into the mud trying to remove that hook. So, I came back the next day to try and remove the hook from the well-hooked fish....

When I found the fish again , I had my camera rolling.

And no hook in its mouth.

I've caught this same fiah now, about four times.

Don't overlook your local culverts.

Eli lake fork has some big fish but don't sell
conroe short

(Feb 02, 2009 TPWD News Release) Ricky Bearden of Conroe set a new water body record for largemouth bass January 30 when he pulled a 15.93-pound fish from two feet of water in Lake Conroe. The big bass now holds the number 24 spot on the list of the top 50 largemouth bass ever caught in Texas.

Black crappie 2.20

white crappie 2.70

Exactly, Sticko, that's what I meant by my post. That even though the one I caught at conroe was shorter than the one next to my foot, it was surely heavier. I'm pretty sure that's what got me to Conroe in the first place; size. I read that Conroe holds very nice sized everything. Lol

I was just beginning to poke around at the idea of kayak fishing lakes as opposed to the bays where it first touched water, and I read that Conroe also had a variety, like stripped bass. Never caught one, heard it's pretty cool. Silver spoons or something...

Also, on my first trip to BJ's, I got to hold the Sheldon reservoir record holder's bass. I think it was 10.10. Biggest bass I've ever seen in person. You could've slipped a can of Campbell's chunky soup into its mouth....sideways...and you could still maybe get a can of tuna in there too.

Well..time to plan a nice trip to Conroe once this last cold passes.

Oh yeah, emphasis on reading of huge bluegill at Conroe is what got me there. Heck, I even saw the photos you've posted of huge bull bream, Sticko.

Once bumped into the fish's namesake angler, LBG, at Conroe and he gave some good tips on how and where to catch them....and they aren't too bad on the palate either.

I came across a few on one of my trips...
