Drifting long poles 2 feet deep as the lake is 4 foot or less.Shinnie hinnies orange truse and black truse. And working a Slater chartreuse jig n spin ( road runner style ) on an ultra light. When you said bass farm I thought you meant something else. Yes, they are in there. I have an 8 1/4 # on the wall from the bass farm.
I told myself I wouldn't tell this but...25 years ago there used to be a bass farm of sorts there. There was only 2 ways to get to it. One was contiguous? to the reservoir but a long ride or paddle through heavy brush. The other was a short paddle in the canoe, but you had to slip under the barbed wire fence on Garrett Rd. Me and my brother slipped the canoe under the fence. Got in there without being stopped by the biologist and fished. I got the 8# with a black lizard, brother had a couple keepers. We heard a pistol shot nearby. Soon after, 2 game wardens with rods & reels appeared on the bank. We all said hello and I asked if they heard the shot. Yeah we shot a big snake. Y'all caught anything? Yeah, and I raised the big one up. Oh nice one. So, how did y'all get back here? My brother and I pointed in different directions. They said they really don't like people fishing back here, that they keep it for spawning and try not to disturb it. Yeah sure you don't like us fishing your secret spot. But I never went back. I tell myself it's probably all overgrown anyway.

Thats an interesting story. Kinda funny I said bass farm in jest. It just feels that way. As its for sure the best bass place around I ever found in my life's traverse. I didn't know the history but glad to learn it. Thank you for the share. Dobby.

Classic!!

I have heard the same things about Buckhorn Ranch lake a little further down Garrett Rd. It's a pay-to-play lake, but I still hear of 8-10 pounders coming out of there. Amazing.

We fished Buckhorn a little bit back in the 50's-60's. I think my dad knew the owners..I believe the Sonniers. At the time of the 8 1/4# story, 1980's, we were living on East Jayhawk, which is just south across Garrett from Buckhorn. They may have not allowed fishing then, just rented the place for company picnics.
