Can anyone offer any insight as to how the white bass fishing is in the lake after they come back form the spawning run? Do they scatter out? What parts of the lake are the better may/june/july places to look for them? I've fished Lake Livingston for over 30 years, and know all the "usual" central and south lake spots to find them. I've fished the west and east forks of Lake Houston all my life, and have caught boat loads. I want to venture out down toward the southern end of the lake to find them. I live up around New Caney, and get tired of the long haul runs to Lake Livingston. Can you catch them on slabs like we do on Livingston? How about trolling? (not my favorite, but sometimes we do that to locate them and sit on them with slabs)....Thanks!

I do not fish the white bass but have seen them schooling up on the south end and around

humps along the river channel .there is no where near as many whites here as on livingston.

so you will have to do some searching for them a pair of binoculars work wonders for finding

them in the summer scanning for splashes of schooling fish.

hopefully the ones that do fish for them can help you more . i see them chunking chrome

blue back traps for them . i am sure the slabs work good also as well as any silver spoon .

There are some excellent wb fisherman that are struggling to get a few each trip....I'm not sure if they have had a big die off, a couple poor spawning years or jumped over the dam.....
There use to be a excellent wb bite below the dam but I haven't heard any news from down there lately.....

SK, You may be on to some thing as these past 2 years they just have not shown up like in years past. A few years ago they would start to come in the end of November or December and continue to move in until March. Have made 6/8 4 to 5 hour trips targeting them this year and have only caught 12/20 of them. In years past could have a limit of them in 3 / 5 hours, but last year only got 2 limits of them and took bulk of the day to do it. Last year a wave of them came in during spring break as remember giving the spot to some youngsters out fishing for them, and also Dutch 1 day around that time and he and his niece caught a few that day on similar structure they were holding on. It only lasted about 10 days too and they were gone.

Talk to the minnow fishermen as passing by them and ask them if they are catching any whites as when they come in a minnow bobber is going down to a few of them whites. They have not caught many either so may be a 7 year cycle they run in also. Will know in 4/5 years if this is just that or if most of them went over the spillway at the dam. Could be all them black bass they been stocking the past few years eating them all up to. lol

Also while crappie fishing when they come in would catch a few every week but do beleive this year I have only caught 3 or 5 to date on a crappie jig.
