It is that time of the year for all the white bass chasers to get the hooks

sharpened on their favorite white bass lures. The water temp is getting close

now 56 degrees . With a week of colds nights cooling the water temps in the

lower 50's The white bass will get into the love making mood and start their

move in great numbers up the river and fast flowing creeks to lay their eggs.

one of the better creeks is canny. but they will be in all the creeks and river.

all kinds of lures work spec rigs , crappie jigs, shysters small cranks. spoons,

white , yellow, chrome , all shad patterns work well. The one lure i see most

people catching them on is a chrome blue back rattle trap by Bill Lewis .

I run blue and chrome, as well as black and chrome or crawfish colored crankbaits that dive 4 to 6 foot

Sticko would it be wise to throw the rattle trap now. I think I may have that color in my box.

any time is a wise time to throw the chrome blue trap if the white bass don't grab it a

large mouth bass or even a crappie will hit them. I have seen a few scattered white bass

being caught in the last few weeks but with the high air temps in the 40's for the next few days

should get the whites moving in large numbers .

the Rooster tail spinner Sk talks about is another good bait made like the shyster

an inline spinner. very deadly on white bass.

Somerville has good spring runs up Nails and Yegua Creeks,

Somerville's tributaries pass through wildlife management areas, so public access is good

for anglers without boats.

. Expect Somerville's fish to run closer to 14 inches. currently have a 12-inch minimum size limit.

Toledo bend have whites weighing 4 pounds.

I use a "Blue Fox "by Mepps , in Chrome or Gold a #3 or #4 with a white feather tail when I can find them . I've used them for over 20 years to find Fish , Crappie , and all species of bass in spawn will destroy these buggers they almost quit making them a few years back , but now there making a comeback. They are Deadly rarely will you miss a fish as that mean Treble hook on the back , it is the first thing they touch......

I am debating on where to head out later this week to try for whites from the bank. Does anybody know if the whites have made it far up into caney creek or other Lake Houston tributaries yet? I can't find a report anywhere. There might be some rain tonight or tomorrow morning which might help their migration? The bite is on now at Lake Somerville tribs, although it has slowed down a bit - which is due in part to all the fish being caught and need of fresh rain (IMO).
