Thank you. I'm looking forward to being there. You know I have a question. The crappie here odd indeed. Folks here are under the impression that crappie here move in patterns that are impossible to predict (except during spring spawn) most of the year. So they don't even waste time trying. Now me coming from Houston learned that crappie are always biting and patterns can be predicted constantly enough to make it viable to fish soley crappie. I hate what I am about to say. But after fishing for crappie here it seems the locals might be right. My question is can this be true based on the environment here? Or is just the number of crappie here are not many? Any one else ever delt with this scenario before? And if so what worked?

that is what most people say all around the united states . But that comes from people that
have not studied the habits and habitat of the crappie . If they catch the crappie in number
in the spring time the crappie did not leave the lake they are somewhere schooled up. It
that clear and cold water they are probably a lot deeper than you are fishing for them .
They have seasonal patterns they move in summer, winter , fall, spring. They move those
four times a year and will be in the same locations every year in that season. when you are
dealing with that clear water the finicky crappie you may have to go down to 4 pound test line
or smaller and smaller jig heads 64th or 128 th. you can use that big line here in texas in this
dirty water hiding the line if you use 10 pound there it will look like a ski rope to the crappie.
usually summer and winter the crappie are deep .fall and spring shallow. deep here is 10-15 feet
deep there could be 35-50 feet. But the fish are there and can be caught year around.

I'll add to SK...find the bait.....find the bait.....find the bait.....find the bait.....find the bait..... tee hee hee

Up north in the big open basin lakes (Mille Lacs, Lower Red Lake, and the like) there's no obvious structure in deeper water and you gotta put in a lot of time to find the shoals of juvenile tulibees and cisco that the crappie will feed on.
