Do you think it was do to going down in size that you caught fish after your friends left
or was it change in color that did the trick.

The reason i said that i fished Wednesday and the fish was slow on most colors i tried.
jw gave me a 32 nd in a color he was catching on and i started catching fish good on
it but i found a 1/8 in the same color and the fish hit it just as good as they did the 1/32.
so for me it was just the color that made the difference and not the down size. The only
reason i went back to the 1/8 was because of the wind blowing such a bow in the line with
the 1/32 it took for ever for the jig to get down. and made it hard to feel the strike with
that bow in the wind.

Who really knows.... I've found that when I downsize when the bite is not sometimes it is weather it be the same color combo or not....
I juss do what puts feesh in tha boat & besides that I'd much rather use the lightest jigs I can get away with since it adds a bit more of a challenge too not getting hung up...
When I use that cannon ball 1/8oz it can catch but when they get finicky the 1/32 & even 1/64oz get'um biting again.....
It tends to work more times than not.....

That's exactly the reason I think the lighter jigs work..... I catch more feesh above the brush & stumps than I do round tha base of'em..... with 1/16 & heavier you have to control the fall..... with the lighter jigs all ya gotta do is follow them down.....
That was aahh 1/64 that I caught tha feesh on, they had shut down on anything else....
I listened to'em and fed'um what they asked fer.....

you are very right the lightest jig and line you can use will always do much
better than a bigger jig and heavy line.. with this Texas as wind that is hard to do at times
i guess your next is the 1/128 th they use ice fishing a lot.

LOL....1/128th juss may test my patience....
I'm not a fan of light line, I prefer braid which not only improves sensitivity but also slows the fall rate of a light jig even more..
Yes sir the conditions had gotta be right to use those small jigs if not you'll have a big bow in your line & that's no bueno......
Are you still using mono?

no i use mostly braid i do have mono one one rod . The fireline braid
The new braid sinks really slow on the cold days . I think we
can do okay with heavy line on our lakes because of water color.
and with so much brush the lighter line frays bad and have to
keep retying. But when i do use it . i get more bites.

I'm really digging that Fireline, i have two rods that's had that same line on them for over three years now.... very good line....
To bad ole academy sports & shoes don't carry it any more but like several other GOOD products they just remove them to put junk out....
They should remove outdoors from their name..... would for sure fit them better....
