well said sk with the new ramp in the bayou . Lues and the river get pounded on
a lot . There are nine boats lined up to fish every stump in there. One boat moves off
another boat will move on it in just a few minutes. These well known spots if you catch
a few fish on them they will spook off quickly but if you move off of the major spots and
fish smaller branches or piles near by you can fill a limit off of them. You are also right
fish bite wet hooks . Keep your bait in the water and quit running all over the lake
the time you use running you can use catching. do not try to fish the whole lake pick one
small area and learn it well . There are more fish in one creek than you can catch if you fished
it every day of your life.

Well SK and Sticko, you are right. I have been just fishing my old spots. I keep seeing really small clumps of brush or just a stick on the DI, and i just figured such a small piece of cover wouldn't hold any fish. Based on your comments, I should be fishing them. The problem is that even with my Helix, I have trouble re-finding them after I mark them on the sonar. I need a unit that GPS is good to a foot, not 15 feet like this one seems to be. I guess I need to do what Sticko does and drop a marker the instant I see anything on the sonar, and just not try to mark it and then go back and find it again. Next time out, I will avoid all my old regular spots and try to focus on just finding new ones and fishing them. I re-spooled all my rods with 20 pound braid with a 4 foot length of 10 pound fluorocarbon leader. I sure can feel the wood better with this set up. I have had several people tell me that the bite is better "later in the day", and I have been leaving around noon to get out of the heat. Maybe I should just wait until late afternoon to go next time. Thanks SK for your comments, and you too Sticko.

It would help you a lot to use your side image you have for the console
to find the piles . Since you bought the down image you never even carry
your side image with you . If you practice with it you will be able to find your
marked piles very easy. You need slow down you try to go in there
at 200 miles per hour. and your over shooting your target.
your depth finder can not adjust as fast as your outboard motor.
have you ever even used the go to feature on the unit to find the way point.
you have to remember that your finder is only reading 1/3 of the depth water
you are sitting in. so if your in 9 feet of water your search beam is a 3 foot circle
if you are in 7 feet the circle is even smaller. this is less than the whole back end of
your boat where your transducer is located. you need to get the back end of your boat
right over the target. if you go fast it will only be a blip. My graph shows the back of
my boat going over the waypoint when that happens i drop a marker. I stop the out\
board get on the troll motor go back and circle the marker i just dropped till i find
right where the pile is and i will drop a new marker right on the pile. most of the time
the first marker i throw out is right on the pile. Have fun catching fish off your new piles.

Guess I need to start taking it again, huh? I guess I could sit at the center console where the 898 SI unit is, run the trolling motor from there remotely, and throw out markers at the back of the boat where that transducer is, then come around with me in the front and find them again with the Helix DI unit. I'll try that.

now you have the right idea you can buy the most expensive things on the market
but if you don't take the time to use them properly they will not catch you any fish,
the way you are thinking now you will be on fish in no time at all.
