The second fish is a striper. The pattern looks like an ocelot cat. They are infested here with stripers. Most have clean lines. This one is just crooked. There are no hybrids here. It takes a crooked man to catch a crooked striper :D . I am having fun with small mouth and stripers.

Just for grins i used to pull a spot with a crappie jig trailer on a leader

off the back hook of the spot and sometimes catch crappie or

white bass on the jig and black bass on the spot.

just might work for you.

Sticko is spot your nickname for the rattle trap? I try anything thats not live bait. I don't know spot?

I got into a school of rat stripers( like about the size of rat reds) the other day with the wife busting shad on top water. She must have caught 40. We chased them for over and hour. At one point I had to stop fishing and just un hook them from her rattle trap. She had never seen anything like it. I was so tickled at her wearing them out! I had the next day a river monster like the kind jermey wade catches strip all my braid off with my .5 oz rattle trap with beautiful red hooks. Never had chance. It was skipping of the bottom. I feel it was a sturgen or cow striper. Mad about my gear lol. Could have been king salmon but I was not in the right river branch to be a true suspect. 51 species here. Who knows.

The spot is made by cotten cordell . looks the same but had a lot

different action . a lot of old time pros preferred the spot over the trap.

the super spot runs a bit shallower, has a little bit wider wiggle, runs nose down and is a little less noisy than the same weight Rat L Trap. I just use the spot in shallower water and the trap in deeper water or murkier water. Both are great baits and catch tons of bass and anything else that swims (walleye, trout, pike, big panfish, even

but both have their times when they out preform. here is the spot

http://www.academy.com/webapp/wcs/store ... DBEALw_wcB

a lot of people use the red eye shad in the rattle baits. Keven van dam.

I'll double that sentiment of the spot with a trailer. Used to troll a 1oz. spot with a 2" white grub behind it for white bass with my dad out in New Mexico...killer setup.

Congrats on finding a school for the missus!!! I'll bet she had a ball! You'll have to take pictures when you reel in that 40lb striper that still has a half ounce ratltrap in its mouth haha! And gear is just gear...it's the fishing stories that add the most value!

Yeppers on lost gear Jeff I agree. And thx for the info on the Cordell and the trailer jig set up. I may give that a go this week. If it or when it hits I will post back. I have the Cordell 1/4 oz bleeding shad. Ohhh and out here they use a white finesse zoom worm on the back treble hook on a yosuri or rebel plug with white and red being a staple color for stripers kinda like black and trusse is a staple for crappie. Here is a pic below. Its how crazy fast they were hitting that day.

are schooling like that.
