I replaced the 20 amp main fuse already I'm Bring my multi meter home from work tonight to trouble shoot but I'm looking for ideas where to start

Battery is fine still runs pumps and depth finders showing 12.2v on my 899

Some time the starter try's to kick in and other times it doesn't **** even the electric choke doesn't work but when I get my first place to start is the starting relay and follow my power around

might be a loose ground or some corrosion some place .

I had trouble with my power trim the wire coming from the trim motor

is two short to reach up to the switch boxes on the power head
so they had to add another wire it is a slip together connection
check this connection for oil or corrosion mine had a lot of oil

on it sometime it made contact other times no so i had to clean it with

wd 40 to get it working again.

check the ground on the outboard motor also.

As sticko said, either a grounding issue or a short. With the starter and electric choke, sound like a grounding issue.

On my Johnson 90hp I had my coils, power pack, and the coil under the flywheel all go out. It was the rectifier had shorted out and blew the whole system.

Fixed it last night around 2am badly oxidized connection was letting voltage threw but when it call for a high amperage load it would cause the relays to not work at all or chatter

Good catch and easy fix. I use my boat in salt water a lot and at least once a year have to clean all my connection.
