I am new to the forum, having learned of it thanks to a chance meeting with Dead Bait recently at the Kingwood boat ramp. I normally fish out of a 17 ft, but have an opportunity to purchase a G3 1032 jon boat. With no experience in a boat this small, what is the general opinion of fishing out of this size at Luce Bayou. It would be powered by a 55 Minn Kota.
Thanks for any input.

Nice to meet you the other day. Lots of boats just like you have fish Luce. Saw a guy the other day with a trolling motor on a kayak. Good luck

I agree with dead bait. Weekends are usually much worse that during the week for big bass boats running on top. Worse though is a big boat running at a slower speed but not at idle. For you in big boats, the "not quite on plane" speed throws the biggest wake which can be two feet high, and can easily swamp small boats if caught sideways. Please be aware. Uncomfortable is one thing, but big wakes can be disasterous. Even my 16 foot Tracker has come close to taking on water from big wakes. And by the way, operating a boat in a manner that is dangerous to other boats is against the law. You do have boat numbers that are large enough to get and report to the lake patrol..... immediately by cell phone..... and they will come after you. Have a nice day 8)

I may have come up with a solution part-way solution for the guys throughin those big waves; I've been workin on this the last few times I've been out.
"DO NOT DO THIS IF THE GUY DRIVING THE BOAT IS A COMPLETE IDIOT"
I have been tuning my boat towards the channel to make the normal people that try to half throttle pass me think if I am going to cross the channel & it has seemed to work. I will say this again "DO NOT GET IN THE WAY OF SOMEONE THAT IS A IDIOT"

I like the idea SK, but how do you tell the idiots from the inconsiderate? :? Granted, I'd assume any ski boat piloted by some young punk is an "idiot", but I've run across my share of mature, seemingly educated, people that proved to be idiots just the same...

The lake patrol was out today getting people for having too many in the boat. 14 ft flat bottom with 6 or 7 in it and a bass boat with the same. I dont know if thats what got them but i imagine it was. Also dont you have to have numbers on any boat with a motor even if its a trolling motor.

Yeah you do have to have it registered if it has a TM. You guys may have seen me out there Saturday in the east fork. Easy to see my 12 ft Jon boat. It's the one with boat seats in it. I tried sitting on the bench seat the first time I got the boat from my dad and decided right then and there I'd have to do something because it was so uncomfortable. I'm 6' 9", so as you can imagine, there's not much room for my knees and it does a number on your back as well. Watch out for those suckers that are flying by ya. The best thing to do, IMO, is get into someplace they can't go. Makes it a tough day of fishing when you're constantly dodging waves all day.
