New depth finder....

My new Lowrance HDS-8 Gen2 with the LSS-1 Structure Scan finally arrived yesterday, I know what I'm going to be doing the next couple of weekends. :D This will be quite an install, I'm going to reconfigure my base depthfinder to act as an instrument cluster, add fuel flow and water pressure to the base depth finder input, replace the GPS antenna, install E-net, install a transom fuse box/circuit breaker to protect the new LSS-1 module, pre-run NMEA 2000 cables and E-net cables to the bow position for a future HDS unit there (upgrade to the Elite DSI), and move the power supply for my console depth finders over to the OEM fuse panel instead of the in-line fuses (can't access the inline w/o removing the dash). The HDS-8 will be located on a RAM Mount just above/right of the windshield.

This is my Christmas, Birthday, and Tax Refund all rolled into one, but it should be worth it based upon the pictures in the Side Scan topic. I'll post pics of the install, and post side scan when done.

As an interesting note, I was reading through the capabilities yesteday on the new "StructureMap" functionality that the Gen2 with LSS-1 has. I will be able to create StructureMap files which can be exported to HDS units that do not inlcude the LSS-1. For those unaware, StructureMap is a new feature in the Gen2 that will overlay the structure scan image on the GPS chart, providing an image of the bottom in relation to the boat, without the interpretation and guessing.

The Transducer:

We'll have to see how the SternMate transducer mount works, no holes in the boat, guaranteed not to come off if installed per instructions....

Looking good W4031!
That unit will definitely help while weeding out unproductive areas.
Be sure to post up some structure pics when you can.

That last shot looks a little strange. It looks like when you get on the pad, the transducer won't be in the water. They usually place them off to the side a little so they are always in clean water with no bubbles or spray so you get a clean picture.

I never installed a high dollar one all of my Humminbirds say that same thing.

Something you might want to double check.

That is the Structure Scan transducer, it works best at <10 mph. The traditional transducer is still through-hull. It's too expensive of a tranducer to risk dropping on a sand bar.

It looks like you did a great job installing your SternMateâ„¢ for your LSS-1. The IPA scrub prep is obvious in your photo.
