I am putting new carpet in the boat.
bought some 20 ounce carpet from
Bass cat boats. nice syntec carpet the
same they use in all bass cat boats.
should hold up great .

I waited till cooler weather to do this job. which was
not the best choice because we had not fall weather it
went right into winter.

the cold temps have made getting the carpet and glue up
very hard job . If it had been warmer the glue would have
been softened by heat. so just had to hammer and scraper
most of it up on the flooring . the lids came off easier.
the glue was hard to to get off so went to harbor freight and
bought a 41/2 inch angle grinder $9. and a cone wire brush to
fit it $3 . this took up all the glue and hard pieces of carpet.
the mineral spirits was cutting it but leaving a oil film that the glue
might not stick to tried acetone it would not cut the glue . the wire
brush on grinder did the job and was even cheaper than a gallon
mineral spirits.

what i had planned to do was just do the floor a two day job take off clean
flooring of glue cut and glue down new carpet. Then i could use my boat to fish.
and just do the lids one at a time when i was not fishing. but because of the cold
and rain i was not able to do that . so have to get it all striped down and cleaned
carpet cut so when i get day the temps get high enough i can get the glue to stick
i can glue them all in a day.

I tried to be careful and take the carpet off without tearing so i could use them
for a temp let to cut new carpet. but some of the flooring was so hard it destroyed
the carpet so bad i had not pattern. so off to home depot to buy some 6 mill
plastic sheeting thick enough to tape in place and still clear enough to see to
draw the out line with a marker. cut to length of flooring ( a few inches longer)
i folded this long ways and went down that seem and every so often cut a square
out along that seem. them lay it on floor of boat measure and find center of boat
mark the boat center starting at bow or aft tape the seem of the plastic to match
center of boat stretch the plastic back and tape to floor every place you cut a square
this will keep it centered now you smooth the sides of your plastic and tape them tight.
now you can trace the outline where you want your carpet to go. i draw mine an inch or two
large when i cut the carpet . once i cut carpet and lay in boat i can trim to exact fit at that time.

to make it look good pay attention to the carpet grain and cut all pieces so the grain is
going in the same way on the floor and each lid. also mark all carpet pieces bow forward.
because if you cut the carpet with the grain going from bow to aft but when you glue
and you get a piece turned around and glue it aft to bow it will show a different shade
in the sun and stick out like a sore thumb.. Hope this helps anyone wanting to do this.
