today the crappie were biting very slow but steady
fished about 6 hours caught 24 fish had 12 keepers
water in bayou was muddy the east fork cleaner
but still off color caught 4 on spider rig the rest jigging piles.
the bite was very faint. Had a fairly calm day or might
not have felt the bite. jig color all white. pink/blk/truse
orange/truse. silver gray.

The thing was just about every pile i could see the fish on them
but they just were not feeding if you just stayed on the piles
eventually you could coax a few into hitting.

when the bite is hard to get like this i will spend a lot more time on
piles i know are holding fish.

when i got to the first hole yesterday the catfish were schooled up and
feeding heavily on the shad. They were busting the water for about 1/4
acre.

Nice catchn...
You gave some valuable info and more time on piles that are known to hold fish pays off....
I was out yestdy and the all the fish I caught came up spewing that wally marshall mud (doo doo) so they are full and mostly not feeding.....
White worked best for me yestdy....
I haven't been catchn many small fish so we may be coming up on a bad year or two for crappie.....

yes the fish were full of shad why the lite bite, they probably
fed all night under that full moon. This is probably the most
undersized fish i have caught this year and are probably from this
spring spawn. Once the fish move up this winter will tell if the spawn
was good and how well the fishing will be next year. I had two fish
over 14 and two over 13 inches out of the 12 keepers. But most of
the better fish have not moved up yet. Need the water temp to get on
down another five to 10 degrees cooler. But looking to catch some wall
hangers this winter into next spring. Fish are starting to move some with
the cooler nights we are having.

So, you are concerned about the effect of the water dropping 2.5’ during the spawn, which was ordered by our city fathers and muthers???
Almost as brilliant as closing Rollover Pass....

it would not effect the spawn if it is before or after the spawn
but could be bad if they did it during the spawn.
which is what they did this spring and maybe why we are
not seeing the undersized fish this fall we normally do.
