Plan on taking my 9 year old granddaughter ( aka fishing buddy) to conroe for some bass fishing. Plan to put over at the FM 830 ramp. Any suggestions on areas to fish? She can cast fairly well with spinning tackle, so we can use a variety of lures.

for people searching for the big one.

Probably in a week or two. Houston is so dirty, thought we would try something new.

the bass and crappie are trying to spawn on conroe.
Peach creek or caney should be good for you.
you can try red traps on the rocks around the light house and the
sunken road bed there at the 830 ramp.
all of Lewis creek is good during the spawn,

I have been catching more Bass than crappie on lake houston since it turned muddy
the bass like the all brown jigs.

Another good place to put in and fish is off of FM 1097 (west side of the lake) in the National Forest public boat ramp. The boat ramp puts you in Caney creek which would be a lot quieter than putting in FM 830 which can get very rough at times with waves.

Caney Creek has many great places to fish for any species.

Good luck

Many fish being caught in the 1 to 6 ft range right now and some good ones. As Sticko said they are trying to spawn. All the areas mentioned above are good suggestions. Concentrate on any structure on north end such as bean trees, lay downs , buck brush and isolated vegetation. Soft lizards, or brush hogs texas rigged good choice right now. Flukes with a small spiltshot about 6 to 8 inches up also working well.

Thanks. All good info. I really appreciate it. My fishing buddy and I have caught a lot of bass in Lake Houston. However I thought it might be good for her to experience something different. Thanks again.

I would suggest lake Raven over Conroe. Not near as dangerous and has a lot of good fish in it.
