Went out yesterday in the bayou water still muddy looking did not catch anything, Went up the river water looks the same as the bayou caught two keepers, not good. Guess I am loosing my touch, between the summer and up till now has been one of the worst fishing since I have lived here, which has been 32 years. Is it me our has it been that hard?

Its not just you I fished from 7:30 am till 12:00 noon
mostly in the river and never had one hit all day. The fish
are moving a lot and not holding on the piles.
We need a good cold spell to get the water temps
down so the better fish will move up river from the
main lake. reading low 60's yesterday.
Dutch fished the bayou yesterday on spider rig said he
caught 21 but only had 2 keepers.
from what i could see on my fishfinder there were quite a few fish
moving in the river by BJs they were hugging bottom in 12-15 feet
of water. but up in the dogleg very few fish have made it up that far
yet.

I went fishing yesterday too and saw Butz in Luce.

I caught 21 crappie.... :D

...but only 2 were keepers :(

It was weird how much water temp varied depending on location. East fork was about 60 degrees, but the mouth of Luce was 58, and the bridge at Ponderosa was 55.

My boat is running really rough so I am taking it in Saturday to Scott (Weatherman's brother, 281-850-1120) who I have used twice in the past, He has a boat repair shop at his house on Lake Houston just north of the 1960 bridge and he is very good and fair priced. Now this is a gift to all of you, since the crappie will turn on immediately after I take my boat in.

I think the fish are moving towards the spawning areas
they are feeding heavy on shad putting on weight to make
it through the winter and to feed the eggs they are carrying.
they are full and not chasing baits . or feeding very often
you need to fish very slow and the bite is going to be
very light . I have seen the fish stacked 3 feet deep and
you can have your jig right in the middle of them . you
may get bit once every 20 to 30 minutes they are just
to full.

Agree with sticko, when the shad moved the fish really chowed down on them. I caught a couple during lunch yesterday and one spit up a small shad so they are still on them. I am going to Conroe with some guys Sat morning, they have been doing good up there for last few weeks.

I went Sunday for a few hours. Caught 4 right in the mouth right in the mouth of Luce. 1 keeper about 11-1/2" and 3 undersize. All were caught moving from point A to point B. They were not on structure. 8-10' right on the bottom.
Moved over to EF and the wind, even though light, was blowing right down the middle of it. Fought it about 30 mins and no bites, at least that I felt anyway.
Last Sat around 8:30am I crossed LH from Huffman going to Humble and on the South side of the bridge, West bank out from the Cedar, there was 25+ pelicans and gulls working that flat like crazy. Bait fish on top and they were tearing up the shad. Sunday about the same time I saw them again but this time they were on the North side out in front of Lake Houston Marina about 300 yards are so.
I saw several large bait balls on my HB but did not catch any from them.
I think spider rigging would be best now, but not really my cup of tea. I like to feel the thump myself.
Moving is best right now as I could not find any that would bite on known structure.

most definitely time to spider rig. with the fish running shad
and not holding on brush piles . you can cover much more
water and depths while on spider with several poles out.
pushing jigs or minnows.

If y'all read this and give it a try it may just put some slabs in yo boat....I went out a few days ago 1st time being on Houston in several months..... Put in at ponderosa since I haven't been in the bayou in forever, scanned all the way to the mouth and marked all the new spots and deleted the ones that were gone....
That lake has made some serious changes with Emilda.....
Went to the river and scanned some..... Ended up in 7fow where I found some bait and had to spider since the fish were not on any structure and in about an hour put 8 good keepers in tha boat.....
Don't forget the steps and if you have take a look at that vid talking bout those 6 steps to put crappie in the boat....
Everywhere I went the water was that funky tan color.....
I did record that trip but not sure I'll edit it.....
Most of all if what you're doing is not working change it up.....
Get at'um.....
